Joanna Newsom – Baby Birch

Let’s get straight to the point because there really is no denying it: Joanna Newsom is a damn goddess. There’s nothing like seeing her perform in Carnegie Hall, where her voice rang at its truest, to drill that fact into my head. Tell me of another female musician in her age range that matches the complexity of her lyrics and arrangements? Every inflection in her voice is deliberate. She’s beautiful, she’s modest, she’s funny, and she wears high fashion. I’ve seen her in Rodarte, Comme de Garcons, Nina Ricci (Thyskens-era), Gucci, Louboutin, McQueen, Sonia Rykiel, oh lawd. The list goes on. Listen, I’m pretty sure her entire outfit at Carnegie was Chanel—the dress she admitted to cutting down the middle so she could play the harp. Goddess move.

She didn’t play the song in this video the night I saw her but it’s one of my favorites. She’s wearing Christopher Kane Spring/Summer 2010.
