Mixed Bag 001

I’ve decided to reformat what was once the supposedly weekly but sparsely updated “Start” music mix into a longer format, bi-weekly mix of ten songs or less available as a full download. I hope to have these available every other Monday so, until next time, enjoy the first of (hopefully) many Mixed Bags.

Restless Things Mixed Bag #1
Download

This mix is inspired by two things: my plane landing and yesterday’s drive through a desolate road in Las Vegas. They both offer beautiful views of two aspects of this place—the bustling strip, the barren desert—but, to me, create a sense of melancholy in their juxtaposition.

I didn’t specify it in the cover graphic but the first song by Florence and the Machine is actually the acoustic version from her session with BBC Radio 2. It is amazing and one of my favorite tracks on the mix.

Here is the tracklist:
Cosmic Love (Acoustic) by Florence + the Machine
July Flame by Laura Viers
Small Mountain by Midlake
Walk In The Park by Beach House
Dumb Lovers by Pearl and the Beard
Brostjor by Olafur Arnalds
Almost Crimes (Acoustic) by Broken Social Scene
Roslyn by Bon Iver and St. Vincent
Walk On The Moon (Acoustic) by Asobi Seksu

Slow Motion Holiday

Greetings from Las Vegas! I apologize for the lack of updates. The whirlwind last week of the semester was followed by a very intense come-down period filled with last-minute get-togethers and frequent moments of spacing out (I blame them on my classes, to be honest) right before I had to hop a plane to get here.

Since I’ve arrived, I’ve done a lot of nothing. I’ve made it an active goal of mine to do as little walking outside as possible—it’s cold, okay?—and have as much time snuggling in mountains of mink blankets as I can. This graph should illustrate my activities nicely. I did do some sightseeing and some shopping on the strip and I’ll post photos later but, for now, I’m very content eating pizza pie and babysitting my nephew. Cheers!

Not dead

For the past week and for the next week or so my days are going to be quite crazy due to end of the year projects and exams. In the meantime, you can visit my Tumblr blogs that, for the most part, get updated more frequently than this one.

Food is still hot!

Lots of fun was had and lots of food was consumed over Thanksgiving. As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, I spent the holiday on the North Shore at a party that basically sprawled over two beach houses and an enormous yard. The weather was perfect as was the food. My favorite would have to be the sweet potatoes that Anthony made the day before but the poached pears and the stuffing I helped make were delicious as well.

Extraneous Zoo Animals: Berkley Illustration

I don’t know how late I am catching on to these, but while I was flipping through Real Simple magazine (so suburban mom-chic, right?) I stumbled upon these prints by Berkley Illustration and let out a very exaggerated exclamation. So amazing! They’re the perfect gift for a debonair fellow or an animal lover or both.

Each print comes in multiple sizes and a charming little blurb accompanies each animal on Berkley Illustration’s Etsy page—which I’m assuming is their sales headquarters. The illustrations also come as bottle openers, magnets, and pins. I want them all!
